AUTOMATED COLLECTION SYSTEMS
Fenwal has been at the forefront of developing technologies that improve the safety and efficiency of blood collection, separation and processing.  Our portfolio of automated technologies allows blood to be automatically separated into its therapeutic components, collecting only what’s needed from donors—red blood cells, platelets, plasma, or therapeutic proteins.  This allows blood centers to optimize each donation, limits further processing steps, and helps to ensure the right blood components are on hospital shelves to meet patient needs.   

WHOLE BLOOD PRODUCTS
Fenwal offers a wide range of integrated solutions for manual, whole blood collection by which blood is collected from a donor and manually processed in a laboratory into its therapeutic components. We also distribute ancillary products to improve work flow and operator accuracy.

TRANSFUSION SAFETY
Transfusion safety is central to Fenwal’s mission.  Fenwal is committed to bringing to market advanced technologies, ideas and performance that are vital to improving transfusion medicine.  Fenwal offers leukoreduction filters for the removal of white cells from donated blood.  We also distribute a rapid diagnostic test for detecting bacterial-contamination in donated platelets, one of the most serious threats to transfusion safety.

CUSTOMER SOLUTIONS
For more than 60 years, Fenwal’s experienced team of professionals has served as a consultative resource and partner to customers and the transfusion field.  We provide donor recruitment programs and materials, training programs, clinical education, and other business solutions. Fenwal’s data management solutions allow blood centers to capture and analyze donation information to enhance their operations and donor-management strategies.

Global Reach

Blood and plasma centers, hospitals, and patients worldwide use Fenwal technologies.  Fenwal employs approximately 3,500 people worldwide, and operates five manufacturing centers.  In 2008, the company generated more than $600 million in sales, with nearly half coming from outside the United States.  Fenwal’s steady growth is fueled by its pursuit of technological innovation and global expansion that brings confidence to medical professionals and the patients they serve.

A Heritage of Innovation

Fenwal, Inc. became an independent company in 2007, but our roots go back to 1949 with the founding of Fenwal Laboratories.  Fenwal developed the first flexible, disposable container for blood collection, eliminating complications associated with glass containers and allowing blood to be separated into therapeutic components.

More recently, Fenwal has played a key role in developing automated systems to increase the safety and availability of innovative blood therapies.  From the first fully automated blood-cell separator to the most advanced apheresis technology, Fenwal continues to be a world leader in the development of innovations that advance the practice of blood transfusion.
